AIGRETTE ADORNED WITH BRILLIANTS AND DETAIL OF ABDÜLMECİD’S PORTRAIT
Although from the 19th century, this aigrette retains the 18th century traditions through some of its features and is characterized with rays radiating from the center, a very popular design of the period. While the long feathers reflect the general traits of an aigrette, it is more reminiscent of the first order examples of the period, than of traditional aigrettes. A large brilliant in two concentric circles and brilliants of different sizes creating a sense of movement are attention grabbing. Fine chains with flowers at the ends are used to fasten the aigrette.
It is known that many jewellers produced similar aigrettes in different periods; you can read more about this in our book.
