Jewelry and Armenian Goldsmiths under the Ottomans’ written by Arsen Yarman, is an extraordinary two-volume publication that restores visibility to a remarkable yet too often fragmented chapter in jewelry history.
As a friend of the Armenian community, I feel particularly moved by a publication that restores voice, memory, and visibility to generations of Armenian goldsmiths whose artistry, refinement, and cultural contribution deserve to be remembered and honored.
These volumes do far more than document jewelry history. Through jewels, drawings, seals, archival documents, liturgical objects, and silverwork, they bring back to light the human presence behind the objects: the hands, the names, the lives, and the legacy.
On this launch day, I am especially grateful to Arsen Yarman for kindly sending me this important work.
